Equally at home on the opera stage and in the teaching studio, Victoria Borg is thrilled to be part of East Toronto's vibrant music community. Born and raised in London Ontario, Ms. Borg has had the pleasure of studying at some of Canada’s largest and most respected educational institutions.
She most recently earned a Masters of Music in Opera and Voice from McGill University, where she was the recipient of a Graduate Excellence Award. Victoria also holds a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma from the University of Manitoba, and a Bachelor of Music with Honours from Western University. She has pursued further training through Opera Nuova, the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, Opera on the Avalon, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, and the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. |
Victoria’s background in teaching and musical leadership is extensive and varied. During her studies at Western she maintained a large and active voice and piano studio. Her students gained entry into top local choirs, musical theatre ensembles, music specialty schools, and Bachelor of Music programs. Ms. Borg also had the privilege of teaching under Principal Brenda Zadorsky, at the Victoria Academy of Music in London Ontario. Additionally, Victoria has been appointed section leader and soloist with many prestigious choirs, including the Amabile Youth Singers, Metropolitan United Church Choir, and St. Giles on the Kingsway Presbyterian Church Choir. Other areas of experience include arts administration and research methods. |
Throughout her education, Victoria has sought out many specialized courses and seminars which enhanced her understanding of teaching, and supplied her with new tools and resources.

Piano Lessons: Ages 5+ (Beginner, Adult Beginner, Intermediate)
Students delve into repertoire, music literacy and technique, using materials appropriate to their age and ability. The curriculum and goals for the semester are determined in collaboration between the individual student, family (if appropriate), and instructor. Students may work towards: Royal Conservatory Exams; Local Music Festivals; Masterclasses; Public or Private Performances; and other ambitions, as applicable.
Voice Lessons: Ages 8+ (Beginner, Adult Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
Students explore repertoire, music literacy, posture and vocal technique. We also discuss song texts, diction, languages, and other elements of interpretation as suitable to their age and ability. Repertoire is chosen based on vocal colour, development and range, as well as musicianship, and used to promote healthy and free singing. Goals are determined through consultation with the student, family (if appropriate), and instructor. Students may work towards: Royal Conservatory Exams; Local Music Festivals; Masterclasses; Public or Private Performances; University Auditions; and other ambitions, as applicable.
Early Music Education: Ages 5-9; (Beginner)
Young students with a love for singing and music, but not yet vocally mature enough to benefit from voice lessons can register for integrated music lessons. Basic music literacy is combined with pitch matching, aural and keyboard skills, using fun melodies and materials, for a duration appropriate to the child's age, attention span and ability.

Philosophy: Freedom through Musicianship
A conductor once told me he knew he had done his job well when his choir "no longer needed him," and could perform their pieces without him. As a teacher, I feel much the same. My goal is to equip my students with the tools, skills, and passion to interpret music independently. Being able to play a flashy piano piece or sing a couple pretty tunes are nice party tricks, but the ability to sit down in front of a new piece of music and discover it on your own is a skill that will last your entire life, and can be incredibly liberating.
As such, musicianship, sight-reading and music theory are integrated into all voice and piano lessons, as appropriate to the age, level and goals of the student. I believe it is possible to find great joy in both the process and the product of music making. There is so much music to discover, and doing so can be a pleasure and an adventure at any age.
